Violet Spider was once a heavenly maiden that met Zhu Bajie, then-Admiral Tianpeng and fell in love at first sight. After the admiral's fall from grace, the Violet Maiden, either due to her desire to follow or for other reasons, followed him into the mortal realm as he had reincarnated as a hideous pig guai, while she became one of the spider guai sisters. By coincidence, after she and sisters capture the Tang Monk, she is reunited with Bajie after he sneaks into their bath.
Bajie's presence, however, causes her sisters to inform their minions, and Bajie escapes before he returns with Sun Wukong and Sha Wujing to chase off the guais. When Wukong fought against the Hundred-Eyed Daoist Master, Bajie was instructed to kill the Violet Spider and her sisters. Though he killed her sisters, Bajie was unable to bring himself to kill the Violet Spider, and she was allowed to escape.
In the years that followed, the Violet Spider remained in the Webbed Hollow, having given birth to six daughters in the meantime. Together with her daughters, they would often prey on male visitors, guai or otherwise. When the Hundred-Eyed Daoist Master returns after the defeat of Sun Wukong, he would pass a special needle for the Violet Spider to use in his next plan.
Violet Spider used to be a heavenly maiden who fell in love with Zhu Bajie when he was still Admiral Tianpeng. After Bajie fell from grace and was reborn into the mortal world as a hideous pig guai, the Violet Maiden followed him down for reasons that aren’t fully explained—she either wanted to stay with him or had some other motive—and became one of the spider guai sisters in the mortal realm.
By coincidence, the spider sisters captured the Tang Monk, and during that episode Violet Spider came face to face with Bajie again. Bajie sneaked into the spider sisters’ bath and the two were reunited briefly. That reunion alerted Violet Spider’s sisters, who raised the alarm with their minions, so Bajie escaped before anything more happened.
Bajie then returned with Sun Wukong and Sha Wujing, and the three chased off the spider guais. Later, during Sun Wukong’s conflict with the Hundred-Eyed Daoist Master, Bajie was given an order to kill Violet Spider and her sisters. He obeyed part of that order: he killed the other spider sisters but could not bring himself to kill Violet Spider and let her go.
After that, Violet Spider stayed in the place called the Webbed Hollow. In the intervening years she bore six daughters, and she and her daughters preyed on visiting men, whether those men were other guai or ordinary mortals. The Hundred-Eyed Daoist Master returned sometime after Sun Wukong’s defeat and gave Violet Spider a special needle to use as part of his next plan, which implies she remains an active threat and a player in future schemes.
